The 2017 Bach Biodynamic Planting and Reasearch Calendar is available here as a free download. Just click on the button above. This year's theme is to continue to explore different cosmic influences that affect the growth of plants sown from seed. Indications followed here were given by Rudolf Steiner in 'The Agricultural Course,' series of lectures where Steiner described the optimal time to sow seeds as being two days before a full moon. He spoke of how, during this time, the forces of growth, which are poured onto the earth by the moon, are at their strongest. Lili Kolisko followed up these indications given by Steiner, and conducted a large number of planting trials, where she compared the growth of seeds sown two days before a full moon, and two days before a waning moon. She always found substantially higher germination rates, stronger and more vigorous plants, and higher yields when seeds were sown two days before a full moon. Kolisko's work has been published under the title 'Agriculture of Tomorrow.' This book is currently out of print, but is available as a free download from some internet sites.
The 2016 Bach Biodynamic calendar consisted of a series of planting trials that took place during 2016. The size and weight of plants whose seeds were sown during a waning and waxing phase, and also during apogee (moon furthest from the earth) and perigee (moon closest to the earth) was measured and weighed. This research has indicated that planting two days before a full moon is an excellent time to sow seeds. Perigee was also associated with high plants yields and strong growth for both above and below ground crops. Research in 2016 also found a strong corelation to the ascending phases of Mercury and Venus and subsequent plant growth, also an indication given by Steiner in the Agricultural Course. Full results of this research can be found in this year's addition of the calendar. The themes discussed here have only been touched upon, but a much more detailed and in depth discussion regarding the rationale for the calendar is provided in my essay ‘Rudolf Steiner’s Indications Regarding Cosmic Influences Upon the Growth of Plants'.
